Hi, my name is Will Allen, I am a 24-year-old cinematographer located in Toledo Ohio. I have been working in the industry for 5 years and have experience with a wide variety of projects, cameras, and lighting equipment.
I have always loved the art of storytelling and grew up creating videos and taking pictures in any free time I could get. I started freelancing in college and combined my degree in media production with a minor in entrepreneurship because I wanted to provide the best value to my clients. Understanding business not only helped me grow as a person but also enabled me to provide insight into the heart of projects instead of just creating beautiful visuals.

A four-year bachelor of arts degree in Media Production from Bowling Green State University with a specialization in video production. This degree included specialized classes on marketing and media studies in addition to the many production classes. I focussed primarily on building up my abilities as a cinematographer and took as many video production classes as were offered. The other area I focused on was marketing, I took multiple courses, from the basics to specialized social media marketing.

The entrepreneurship program at BGSU is one of the first of its kind and separates itself from the Business program by focusing on the individual. It teaches you how to grow, recognize business trends and opportunities, and build up an entrepreneurial spirit. This is in addition to all of the basics of business, marketing, and cashflow. I took as many marketing classes as were offered within the minor and focused on how to build effective marketing strategies.

As vice president of commercial production at WLMB, I was in charge of creating commercials for any of our commercial partners. I produced, wrote, filmed, and edited commercials for a variety of clients. I learned a lot about client communication and how to be creative within the often limited budgets and time committed to projects. This job also consisted of other production responsibilities at the station. The most notable of these included, designing, creating, and directing a gameshow and Filming, branding, and creating graphics for internationally syndicated RadiantTV.

FREELANCE FILMMAKER

I worked doing freelance video production jobs for a variety of different clients and projects. I worked for Universities, Production Companies, and a variety of businesses. This work took me from commercial sets all the way to documenting a live heart surgery. On some projects, I produced and directed, and on others, I filled a variety of production roles. This also included multiple photography shoots as well as video.

WEDDING BUSINESS
WORKING FOR MYSELF

For the past three years, I have run a wedding photography and videography business as well. This has acted as a side income and allowed me to experiment with different business practices, marketing, and production. It also helped me finance the equipment I use on productions. I worked as a video production intern at Summit Ministries for the Summer. My responsibilities included documenting student conferences and a variety of outdoor activities, live streaming lectures and events, and creating films to highlight the student experience and advertise the ministry.
